Audio:
Traditional- tape recorder
Emerging- internet audio
I think that while using tape recorders in class would be a very helpful tool, because you could take it home a write down notes and make sure you have everything the teacher talked about that day in class, I do think that there are much better and easier ways of making sure you are understanding the material at hand. Internet audio is a great example of this because students can go online and look up topic they are having trouble in and have someone break it down step by step, in maybe a different way then the teacher did. This helps the students so see it in two different ways because once they understand it they way the teacher taught it to them will make much more sense.
Visual:
Traditional- overhead projectors
Emerging- DVD recorders
Overhead Projectors while they are good for note taking and very boring for students to sit and stare at for a whole class period. Not only that but it is expensive after a while because all notes much be printed on a different type of page so that they can be used on the overhead projector. Students need class to be more engaging and interactive in order to hold their attention. DVD recorders would be a good way to get students involved. After teaching each lesson students could get into small groups and give short presentations of what they learned about that specific topic and the teacher could record them. So not only do they get to be the teachers but they will be able to see how they did and learn good presentation skills throughout the class because of the routine teaching they get to do. These could be posted on a class website for the students so that they could watch them on their own time and see where they could improve.
